Technology for the Educator

NaturalReader is a text-to-speech App. It will read Microsoft files, webpages, PDF files, and e-mail attachments. It can also convert written text to audio files such as MP3 or WAV.

I downloaded the free version and it sounds pretty good, but you can tell it is a computer generated voice. On the free version you can only choose between a male or a female voice, but the paid version contains a number of different voice choices. You also have the ability to speed up or slow down the rate of speech.

A real plus for the reader is its ability to connect to Dropbox. It is a wonderful tool to use if you want to review lecture notes while you are doing household chores or just walking in the park. It is a perfect tool for the audio learner, class notes can be saved to Dropbox and can be listened to at any time. The Natural Reader works on both the iphone and ipad. Check it out at http://www.naturalreaders.com/.
