BB9 Bug: Student Grade Book Error!

If you have received complaints from students that they cannot access the My Grades area of their course, there is a software issue. The issue happens when a new column is added to your grade book. One of Blackboard’s service packs started the problem, a new patch was put on this weekend to fix the issue. The instructor can fix the issue using the following steps.

• Go to the full grade center
• Locate the new column that was recently added
• Click on the action link beside the column name and select Edit Column Information
• When the column information page loads DO NOT change anything on this screen — just click Submit.
• You must do this for each newly added column.

A patch to fix this issue was added this weekend, but it only prevents issues for any new columns you create, it does not fix the old issues.

Blackboard 9.1.10 Discussion Issue Alert

Recently someone told me that I needed to learn that a step forward and two steps back is not a setback, but a waltz. Please keep that in mind with this announcement.

With the upgrade to BB SP10, we have experienced our first campus bug. It can be found in the Discussion area. Most of you have been using Discussions for a while and have gotten use to using the Availability function to release the forum at the appropriate time.  That function does not work properly in SP10.

From the Instructor view you will see a message similar to the one below on your Discussion list, but from the student view you can still access and post to the forum.

What that means to you is that you will need to manually restrict access. Go to the action link beside the forum and click Edit. Change Available to “NO” and click Submit.

You will need to manually change Availability until BB comes out with a patch for this issue. I will keep you updated.
